Haemochromatosis dubbed’Celtic curse’,is a rare haematological condition caused by elevated body iron level.
Luckily Katherine Hough’s condition was dignosed in time,after she visited the GP with severe joints pain and falling hair.
Other symptoms associated with the condtioin include fatigue,skin problems,sexual health issues;if left untreated,can lead to liver cancer ,liver cirrhoses,joints and pancreatic diseases.
Treatment is simply by venesection(blood letting)to allow the body utilise excess iron when forming more blood,avoiding iron rich foods and taking medication that will reduce body iron content.
